Scuba Diving the Cane Bay Wall in St. Croix

If you are thinking about your next dive vacation, think St. Croix.

St. Croix is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands; it offers a tranquil tropical destination for vacationers, honeymooners, meeting attendees, scuba divers and more.  St. Croix is rich in cultural diversity and has a past filled with a fascinating history.   Although only 22.7 miles long and 8 miles at its widest point, the landscape of St. Croix is surprisingly diverse.  St. Croix provides its year-round visitors with gorgeous beaches, world class recreational activities, diving, fine dining, casinos and golf. The island also offers a variety of activities and events that keep life exciting, but one of the most exceptional things to do in St. Croix is snorkeling and scuba diving.  It has a variety of amazing dives, plunging walls, wrecks, and reefs.

Close to shore, is a beautiful living coral garden filled with a variety of soft and hard corals, along with tropical fish and aquatic life. This divers dream is known as Cane Bay Wall.  The wall drops from 40 to over 3,200 feet and includes vertical and slow sloping areas. Nineteenth century anchors and large deep water sea life can be found along the wall.  It is legendary and runs parallel to the north shore of the island and extends for about seven miles.  There are several premier dive sites all along the wall, but Cane Bay is a laidback, easy access shore dive just 100 feet from the beginning of the wall.  On the way out, divers can explore coral nurseries, spot 19th-century ship anchors and even a random carrousel horse on the ocean floor.  The shallow reefs are ideal for first-time divers, and the wall begins at around 40 feet before dropping to more than 3,000 feet. While swimming next to schools of angel fish, parrot fish and jacks (among others), it is all too easy to get caught up in the beauty of this underwater gem.
