Coral World Ocean Park St. Thomas, A Magical Experience

The next time you travel to St. Thomas make sure to visit Coral World Ocean Park. Coral World is a five acre Ocean Park on top of a coral reef.  This is one of the most unique activities your can enjoy in the US Virgin Islands.  You can experience marine life from an undersea observatory without even getting wet.  This is the only attraction on St Thomas where you have the opportunity to pet a shark, feed stingrays, wild iguanas or tropical birds.

When considering things to do in St Thomas, keep in mind the exciting Snuba Dive and Sea Trek Helmet Dive, thrilling Sea Lion Swim, a semi-submarine, and a number of other amazing programs that involve up-close encounters with sharks, turtles and sea lions. In addition, there are several gift shops and cafés for your shopping and dining pleasure, plus locker and shower facilities.

At Coral World Ocean Park you can experience the beauty and magic of Caribbean marine life up close and personal. Have close encounters with fascinating marine animals like sea lions, turtles, sharks and stingrays in a stunning setting.  Surrounded by beautiful island views and landscaped with palm trees and other tropical flora, the park also exhibits Caribbean sea-life in a variety of aquariums and outdoor pools.  Coral World’s Touch Pool exhibit is really cool encounter where visitors get a real “hands-on” experience.  Designed to teach guests about the interesting animals living in the pool, the Touch Pool offers close observation of sea star, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, sea anemone, conchs and other shallow-water creatures.

If sharks intrigue you, enter the world of these fascinating, magnificent, and misunderstood creatures through the Shark Encounter. After a briefing on sharks by a staff biologist, guests climb into the Shark Shallows Pool to observe juvenile lemon, blacktip, and nurse sharks from as close as two feet!

Since January 2015 Coral World allocates a portion of the activity fee for both Shark and Sea Turtle Encounters towards helping support research, education, and conservation efforts. Coral World also serves as a rehabilitation center for injured or sick turtles and even struggling hatchlings that have not found their way out to sea and the safety of mats of Sargassum seaweed.  Coral World staff members have assisted the Division of Fish and Wildlife with its turtle census and collaborated with other organizations like the West Indian Marine Animal Research and Conservation Service and the STAR Network.
